"Human beings have a natural predilection for sweet tastes. Indeed, this is thought to be a basic survival adaptation, ensuring that infants accept breast milk, which is slightly sweet due to its lactose content. Nutritionists agree that sweet foods are part of a healthy diet; however, the key is moderation to ensure that sweet foods do not crowd out more nutirent-dense foods" said Dr Paul Flynn, Higher Scientific Information Officer at IFIS.
